We can all say that 2020 has done enough. Well, just recently, a new COViD-19 variant has been discovered. United Kingdom’s health secretary, Matt Hancock stated that approximately sixty different local authorities had recorded COViD infections caused by the new variant.
“We’ve currently identified over 1,000 cases with this variant predominantly in the South of England although cases have been identified in nearly 60 different local authority areas. We do not know the extent to which this is because of the new variant but no matter its cause we have to take swift and decisive action which unfortunately is absolutely essential to control this deadly disease while the vaccine is rolled out, “Hancock shared with BBC News.
What then will this say with the New Year up and coming? It only suggests that we need to take even more seriously the health protocols that our government is implementing. We need to be more cautious and alert when we’re out and about. Our knowledge is limited as to how this new variant infects people, or if the vaccine for COViD-19 will work with this variant, looks like this pandemic will take longer than expected.
2020 has forced us to take care of our health and in doing so, we needed to go back to what is basic: wear masks, wash hands, keep physical distancing. 2021 is asking us to continue these measures. It is easy to be disappointed, but on the contrary, we have just been firmed up and prepared so we can better ourselves.
